About a month ago (actually, exactly a month ago), the knitting group at the LYS was alerted to a need for handmade scarves for a charity event. The Hamburg Area Woman’s Club and the First UCC Church in Hamburg host an annual holiday dinner for needy families selected by the Salvation Army to attend. Every year, they give a gift to each person that attends — this year, they decided to give scarves. So several in our group got to stashbusting and whipped out more than 15 scarves for the event. Fortunately, I had some stash of novelty yarn I picked up on clearance several years ago, just before I decided I’d had it with garter-stitch novelty yarn scarves. I’m glad it’s finally been put to use. I’ve been able to bust out four so far, and my fifth is about two-thirds finished (I only have until the 13th to finish it, though!). I forgot to take a photo of the one I just finished today, but here are the three I finished earlier.

I forget what some of the yarns are, since I threw away some of the ball bands before I could write down what they were. But I do know the blue one on the left is Patons Allure (turquoise), Patons Cha Cha (reggae, a green that’s just a tinge on the bluish side), and Bernat Boa (peacock). The burgundy one in the center is Patons Allure (ruby), Moda Dea KickX (curious), and Moda Dea Ticker Tape (sunset). The orangey-pink one on the right is Moda Dea Ticker Tape (some orange-yellow variegated colorway), and two other yarns I can’t remember.
I’m still working on an Irish Hiking Scarf in Patons Rumor (a discontinued yarn — and that’s probably a good thing since it sheds more than my cat). That pattern calls for aran or worsted-weight yarn and size US 8 needles; Rumor is considered bulky, so I’m only doing two repeats of the cable pattern and using US 10.5 needles. Shedding aside, it’s turning out nicely. Photo of that one to come when it’s finished.
